At the same time, the platform extends end-to-end network visibility to remote users, Zero Trust network architectures, data centers, and public cloud environments through NPM+.

According to the company, Riverbed IQ functions as the foundational intelligence layer behind NPM 360, applying a combination of causal, predictive, generative, and agentic AI models across vast streams of operational data. Complementing this is Riverbed Q, a conversational interface designed to allow network professionals to investigate performance degradation, connectivity failures, and other operational anomalies using natural-language questions rather than navigating through multiple complex dashboards, writing custom queries, or manually stitching together logs.

Richard Tworek, chief technology officer at Riverbed, points out that the enterprise technology landscape is undergoing a significant generational shift that makes these advanced diagnostic tools essential for daily operations.

“We see in the marketplace that the ‘gray beards’ are starting to disappear,” Tworek says, noting that seasoned network engineers with decades of institutional knowledge are retiring or moving into different roles. As a result, “less experienced folks are coming into managing network operations.”

The primary objective behind Riverbed’s new architecture, Tworek explains, is to bridge this growing expertise gap by essentially empowering a relatively inexperienced technician to operate with the capability of a veteran network expert through the intelligent application of automated tools.

Transforming Traditional Troubleshooting and Remediation

Historically, network operations teams have faced a tedious and fragmented diagnostic process when tracking down the root cause of a slow application or an intermittent connectivity failure. Engineers have traditionally had to manually determine which specific monitoring system held the relevant answer across a fragmented collection of disparate tools, and then manually correlate metrics from various vendors to isolate the issue.

With the introduction of NPM 360, Tworek says that workflow is streamlined dramatically. An operator can simply pose a question in plain language to the platform, allowing the underlying system to automatically determine which specific monitoring tools, data stores, and network metrics are relevant to the problem at hand.

“Just ask the question,” Tworek says. Under this modern approach, Network 360 can accurately determine where an issue is occurring, identify the exact segment of the network responsible for the slowdown, and use that localized intelligence to help resolve the problem efficiently. Furthermore, the technology is capable of executing proactive remediation actions—such as dynamically rerouting traffic around a congested link—though enterprises retain the option to keep a human in the loop to review and approve actions before they are automatically executed across the production environment.

The platform’s operational flexibility also extends to continuous monitoring and proactive alerting. Tworek notes that an operator can assign an autonomous agent to passively watch a specific router, switch, or cloud interface over an extended period, continuously collecting relevant telemetry and reporting back only when performance conditions begin to degrade. These operational updates can then be delivered seamlessly through Riverbed’s native interface or routed directly into enterprise collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Slack, ensuring that the right teams are notified immediately without adding noise to their daily workflows.

Underneath the conversational AI interface, Riverbed’s underlying data store tracks critical network metrics in real time. Meanwhile, the specialized agentic engine focuses its deep analysis specifically on relevant operational deviations rather than forcing every single data point through an intensive AI workflow, keeping the system responsive and resource-efficient, according to Tworek.

Unifying Disparate Data Sources and Monitoring Tools

NPM 360 draws its foundational strength from Riverbed’s robust existing network telemetry architecture. AppResponse provides high-fidelity packet capture and deep packet analysis, while NetProfiler delivers enterprise-scale flow monitoring and comprehensive analytics. Meanwhile, NPM+ leverages endpoint data to extend deep visibility into the activities of remote workers, modern Zero Trust security architectures, hybrid cloud environments, and core data center operations.

Beyond raw visibility, the technology is specifically architected to help enterprise organizations alleviate the operational fatigue and complexity created by the accumulation of multiple monitoring tools. Tworek points out that modern IT organizations routinely waste valuable time jumping between disconnected systems, proprietary dashboards, and manual spreadsheets in a frantic attempt to correlate performance information generated by different vendor products. By consolidating these views and applying a unified intelligence layer, NPM 360 aims to cut through that operational friction.

Industry analysts agree that the increasing distribution and scale of modern enterprise architectures demand a fundamental shift in how network performance management is approached. Bob Laliberte, principal analyst and founder at Liberte Research Group, emphasizes that as enterprise networks grow increasingly complex, distributed, and heavily utilized, network operators will increasingly rely on sophisticated AI capabilities to maintain operational resilience at scale.

“Users benefit from a tightly integrated solution into what they are using today vs. learning a new tool,” Laliberte says, highlighting the value of building advanced capabilities directly into trusted, established enterprise platforms. “As network environments become more complex, distributed, and inundated with traffic due to AI and more specifically agentic AI, operators are going to require tools like IQ and Q to enable them to work more effectively and ensure operational resilience at a greater scale.”

Furthermore, Laliberte notes that natural-language interfaces will provide substantial operational relief to overburdened network teams, although he acknowledges that widespread industry adoption may take time as practitioners gradually build trust in automated diagnostic technologies. He observes that Riverbed’s strategic approach successfully combines high-fidelity network and endpoint data with multiple categories of artificial intelligence, shifting the operational paradigm from mere anomaly detection to comprehensive explanation, predictive forecasting, and governed remediation across hybrid environments.

Riverbed announced that NPM 360 is available immediately, and the company has structured the initial rollout so that the new capabilities are offered at no premium over existing pricing models for current AppResponse and NetProfiler customers.

Riverbed has introduced advanced artificial intelligence capabilities into its core network performance management portfolio, a move designed to help modern IT and network operations teams troubleshoot complex environments more rapidly and maintain comprehensive visibility across highly distributed enterprise infrastructures.
